Did you know that millions of people live with undiagnosed vision problems, eye health issues, or even early signs of disease? Many eye conditions develop gradually, often going unnoticed until symptoms begin to affect your daily life.

Why Should You Prioritize Regular Eye Exams?

Regular eye exams help detect changes in your vision and uncover potential health problems long before symptoms arise. Many eye conditions and diseases are often silent in their early stages. A comprehensive eye exam is essential in identifying these issues early, giving you the best chance at effective treatment and maintaining healthy vision.

What is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

A comprehensive eye exam is more than just a check for vision changes. It involves a detailed assessment of your entire visual system, including checks for common refractive errors (like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism) and screenings for eye diseases. Our eye doctors use advanced diagnostic technology to assess every aspect of your eye health, from visual acuity and eye muscle function to retina health and eye pressure.

How Often You Need an Exam

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), the recommended frequency for eye exams varies by age and individual health needs:

  • Children (5 and older): Every 1 to 2 years
  • Adults (18-60): Every 2 years, or annually if you wear contact lenses or have a family history of eye disease
  • Adults (61 and older): Every year

For patients with specific health concerns, like diabetes or a family history of eye disease, we may recommend more frequent visits.

Eye Exams for Children

Children’s eyes constantly develop, and good vision is essential for their learning, social interactions, and overall well-being. We offer comprehensive eye exams for children above age 5 to ensure they see clearly and comfortably. Our pediatric eye exams are tailored to make young patients feel at ease while providing a thorough assessment of their visual health.

Do You Have Diabetes?

For patients with diabetes, regular eye exams are vital to monitor for diabetic eye disease that can lead to vision loss if left untreated. Our diabetic eye exams focus on detecting changes in the retina and blood vessels, which can be early signs of diabetic retinopathy or macular edema. If you have diabetes, we recommend yearly diabetic eye exams to safeguard your vision.

Thorough Contact Lens Exams

For those interested in contact lenses, a specialized exam is necessary to ensure proper fit and comfort. A contact lens exam goes beyond a standard eye exam, focusing on measurements and health evaluations specific to contacts. At Advantage Eye Centers, we’re dedicated to finding the right lenses for your lifestyle, whether you’re interested in dailies, multifocal lenses, or specialty lenses.
